WELCOME!
We’re Katie and Kara, sisters & co-founders of The Pursuit of Homestead. After years of pursuing a homesteading lifestyle while balancing full-time jobs, we began to dream bigger. What if we could create beautiful, intentional tools to support the homesteading community in their own pursuit? From that idea, The Pursuit of Homestead was born.

Our Beginning
Katie was captivated by an inspiring YouTube video of a homesteader showing her root cellar. Seeing shelves overflowing with food that she and her family had grown themselves sparked something new in Katie, a possibility she had never imagined. In that moment, the seed of homesteading was planted in her heart.

A Necessary Move
A year later, Katie packed her car with her belongings and set out across the country, following her homesteading dream. She landed a full-time job as a nurse and rented an apartment, unsure how she would ever turn her vision into reality. She started small, planting just one garden bed on her apartment balcony but little did she know, by the time it was ready to harvest, she would have land of her own to call home.

Sista, Sista. I'm Glad to Be With Ya.
With nothing but hope and a prayer, Kara followed shortly after. She moved in with Katie in her one-bedroom apartment and whispered a simple prayer: “Please help me be a blessing and not a burden.” The following year, Katie found a way to buy her first home on just over an acre, giving them both a place to chase their homesteading dreams.

Climbing the Ladder & Cultivating the Land
One dog, seven hens, four garden beds, and two full-time jobs. Balancing the costs of starting a homestead with the thrill of advancing in their careers, Katie and Kara found themselves deeply focused on work.
2024
Just Keep Moving, Just Keep Moving
Three dogs, six hens, fifteen garden beds, and growing weary. Katie and Kara had settled into a routine and were finally seeing the fruits of their labor, but their careers, though they were deeply grateful for them, left them exhausted and kept them from accomplishing everything they had set out to do.
2025
The Year of Burn Out
Three dogs, six hens, twelve bunnies, twenty-one garden beds, twenty decomposing straw bales, eight fruit trees, and two very tired women. They knew it was time for a change. Their jobs demanded more than they had to give, but their desire to live a sustainable, intentional life was stronger than ever. So they made the difficult decision to leave their full-time jobs and take a leap of faith, founding The Pursuit of Homestead, a business that blends their passion for homesteading with the skills and experience they had built in their careers.
2026
The Pursuit of Homestead
They found the loophole. In 2026 their hope is to continue creating beautifully designed products that support and inspire the homesteading community. On the homestead, they dream of adding quail, a greenhouse, more perennials, and honeybees. The loophole? Their careers fuel their passion, and their passion is The Pursuit of Homestead.
